The Yukionna depicted in the Gazu Hyakki Yagyō

Yukionna

Yukionna (雪女 ‘Snow Woman’) is a Yōkai depicted in the Gazu Hyakki Yagyō and Hyakkai Zukan.

In Sekien’s book she is denoted as the personification of cold and he has depicted her with hair upon her hands. This perhaps hints that the Yukionna is actually the result of a Kitsune, another type of Yōkai known to have been a shape-shifting trickster.

The creature is said to dwell in mountains where she would freeze to death unwary travelers.

She also finds herself mentioned within the book known as the Kwaidan.1
