Osakabe

Osakabe (長壁) is a is a is a type of Yōkai depicted in the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki by Toriyama Sekien.

The creature is known to live within Himeji Castle. According to tradition when Himeji Castle was extended, a local shrine was moved. In time, the local lord of the castle became ill, with rumours stating the kami of the moved shrine was the reason. And so Osakabe Shrine was constructed within the castles keep for the kami.

This creature is later mentioned in the 1763 book Fūryū Shidōken-den by Hiraka Gennai.1
