Aonyōbō (青女房 – A lady in waiting) is a type of Yōkai depicted in the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki by Toriyama Sekien.
She is depicted as a creature with unshorn eyebrows and blackened teeth. it is said she slinks around watching those who are better than her.
The Ao in her named denotes the word for blue, meaning someone who is a newbie or rookie. This was often used as a deregotory term for ladies at court who are inexperienced and young.1
