Itsumade
Itsumade
Itsumade (以津真天) is a type of Yōkai depicted in the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki by Toriyama Sekien.
Appearance wise the creature is said to have the head of a man and body of a snake. It has a crooked bill as well as saw teeth, with long sharp spurs down its legs. It’s wing span reaches 4.8 metres. In addition it has the ability to breathe fire and lightning.
The creature features in the Taiheiki and here is ultimately killed by Hiroari, with an arrow, after he locates the creature through sound at it hides behind cloud.
Though never explained in the Taiheiki or by Toriyama Sekien, the creatures cry sounds like ‘itsu made’ (Until When?).1
