Nue in the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki.

Nue

Nue (鵺) is a type of Yōkai depicted in the Konjaku Gazu Zoku Hyakki by Toriyama Sekien.

This creature is said to dwell in the mountains taking the appearance of a creature with the head of a monkey, limbs of a tiger and tail of a viper, according to the Tale of the Heike.

In this tale, a one of these creatures is killed by Genzanmi Yorimasa with an arrow, after which he is granted the sword Shishō by the Emperor for felling the beast.1 The creature was killed in 1153.2
