William Gowland
William Gowland was an English Archaeologist working at the newly established mint in Osaka in the 1800’s.
He is known to be one of the only Westerners to explore the Kofun tomb of Emperor Nintoku during his lifetime before the Imperial Household Agency in the 1880’s started to refuse scholarly access to Kofun sites.1
